Located in Northern California, Converting Equipment International produces a variety of equipment for roll to roll industry. Recently CEI doubled it production space to allow for the increased orders they are receiving from around the world.  Simon Gross, CEO stated, “I believe that the blazing speeds of our 1800 fpm (550 mpm) machines, our integrated use of high speed inspection cameras, along with the quality and affordability of our equipment, and the increasing needs of our customers to handle unsupported films will continue to open new and exciting markets for us worldwide.”

CEI’s equipment is built with the intention of making the operator’s job easier. For the past twelve years, CEI has been the front runner in combining the latest technology, servo control and operator interface in a simplified application. The most basic machine sent from the factory floor is capable of running a variety of materials from the thinnest unsupported films to heavy tag stocks through the use of simple tension and taper adjustments within the operator interface.

Recently, CEI manufactured a pharmaceutical machine with 100% inspection and eight lanes of “on demand” ink printing. The CEI team simplified the process by developing a new program in the touch screen to allowing the operator to control individual lanes including nine digit counts either up or down, text placement, and maintenance functions. Simon Gross commented on this particular installation mentioning, “that with the interface CEI designed for these print heads, the operators save over an hour of setup per job.”  This is a tremendous savings of not only time, but materials processed through the CEI equipment.

Equipped with the latest CAD equipment, and a full in house production machine shop, CEI welcomes not only standard machines, but custom applications.  Simon Gross talked about a recent machine produced for the solar industry, slitting thin strips of thick PET. He explained, “what made this application so exceptional is that we were able to eliminate a raised edge which had been the norm for this customer.”

Simon Gross is in ‘Voronezh’ for the first leg of another Russian adventure, meeting up with three machines for installation and training followed by a Russian label expo in Moscow. The photo to the right is at his first stop,  working for Euroflex.

Training eager workers at Euroflex is on! It went smoothly as the machine hummed right up to speed and with a Web Up diagram laminated and posted on the machine the group is moving at warp speed.

Now… on to leg two!
