Mechanical Engineering Aptitude (Technical Skills)

  • Use sound engineering judgement and mathematics.
  • A creative, critical thinker; provide the best solution to problems with justification.
  • When designing be mindful of improving manufacturing costs, machinability for minimal setups, tolerance, and inspection features.
  • Produce mechanical designs and drawings that meet project specifications and accurately portray the details for finished product per Sales Quotes and/or Design specs.
  • Design components, assemblies, and robust Machines with the customer’s ergonomics, footprint, process flows, and ROI in mind while staying within or greatly improving the machine budget.
  • Work with all departments to produce engineering designs, drawings, and documentation on or before the prescribed deadlines.

Professionalism with an end goal of customer success

  • Responsible for all designs during the entire life cycle. This includes any re-design and direct interaction with customers when issues arise.  Taking full responsibility of the designated project(s) in working with the customer to resolve any issues in a timely and agreed to manner.
  • Work alone, or in concert as part of the engineering team to achieve great products.
  • Have an active role in assembly, commissioning, and running of any machines where you were part of the design. This includes proactively creating and documenting test criteria and initiating tests with positive repeatable results.
  • Record keeping of jobs being performed, including documentation in ERP software.

Industry Knowledge

  • Demonstrate clear understanding with regards to converting industry machinery, operations, functions, and terminology
  • Keep up with new trends and ideas within the converting industry
  • Know and explain what constitutes repeated success in designs within all processes of the converting industry.

Listen, Share, Learn

  • Work with other internal departments to implement machine design enhancements.
  • Clearly communicate design intent from order conception through the final customer sign-off.
  • Actively listen and openly solicit recommendations for design improvements. Communicate any design improvements during scheduled meetings
  • Learn from other designs, always thinking of ways to improve them in the areas of manufacturability, cost reduction, ergonomics, and ease of use.
  • Communicate project/task progress and inform of potential delays with proposed solutions to get the project back on schedule.
  • Concurrently work with the BOM team to offer accurate data within the BOM process.

Technical Support

  • Gain the knowledge and ability to operate, instruct, demonstrate, and troubleshoot machinery.
  • Assist all customers with machine troubleshooting, technical knowledge, and improvements.
  • Be part of the team to accommodate after hour customer challenges.
  • Handle all issues with a proactive problem-solving approach.
  • Create support tickets to document customer issues within MRP software.
  • Understand materials used in the converting industry and the effects of all processes used to create the customers desired product.
  • Ability to travel as required to help with machines installs, assisting or leading with special training, or to resolve customer problems.

Provide support – Be a part of the Solution

  • First and foremost, we are a team.
  • Be approachable and willing to assist at all stages of a project.
  • Quickly resolve Machine Shop and Assembly questions.
  • Help other departments when requested, to support with ideas and documents as we build our customer support department and knowledge base.
  • Work with Electrical engineering to assure all paths and enclosures are accounted for in the mechanical design.
  • Work with Software engineering to develop a clear understanding what software will be needed to assure complete success.
  • ECO process- promptly provide and document solutions for design corrections and/or improvements initiated by customers and other CEI personnel.
  • Be part of the team to accommodate after hour customer challenges.


  • Proficiency in the use of SolidWorks and data management software
  • Proficiency in the use of SolidWorks structural and motion analysis
  • Clear understanding of mechanical systems and mechanical design
  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work in Imperial and Metric units
  • Ability to travel to customer sites as requested


  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering required
  • Experience in Manufacturing preferred
